Just got through my first listen and I really enjoyed it. Lots of twists and turns in the melodies and I really like the vocal performance on this. It is overall a much cleaner sounding record than past efforts, but the rhythm guitar tones sound very much Pallbearer so I'm not sure I agree with that criticism.

A bit strange calling this doom metal when it's arguably closer to cheerful than depressing
|

Never listened to cheerful doom?

Doom metal makes sense, has more to do with the speed and riffs in this case than the feel.
Heard the single from this and wasn't too impressed but I'll probably give it a shot.

As a whole, this band has very good artwork. Very clean. Excellent color choices. Would look great as an LP.
Exceptional.

Disagree with most of this review.
"It's an enjoyable experience for a the first couple of listens but its shallowness doesn't reward repeated plays."
You said you listened to it twice in the comments...

album is good on first listen, not the biggest fan of the clean vocals, but some memorable riff. Will have to listen again

I thought this was just ok after a first listen but appreciated it more after a second listen. Some pretty solid songs. I agree that the reviewers criticisms of the production are unwarranted. Sounds heavy and crunchy and thick but without being too brittle like a lot of metal albums are these days. It seems to be trendy today to not like things because they have "over-polished production". What's the opposite of over-polished, sounding like shit? I like my albums to be well produced and this one is.

I'll say two things:
i. This is progressive doom
ii. Vocals are as good as they are on FoB, if not better.

never heard of this band but I'm checking out the Plea song
