tbh though if this is "ulver does pop" i also have my expectations tempered however they usually do pretty much nail whatever direction they go for

they are one of the rare examples of a group that can successfully delve into different soundscapes

These guys have like 1 metal album from 20 years ago, sandwiched between a really folky debut and an exclusively neofolk follow-up. Dude's barely dabbled in bm compared to the rest of their discog.

"Dude's barely dabbled in bm compared to the rest of their discog." lol yeah, he's probably done more with other metal bands than he has with Ulver.

mainstream pop crowds are the least discriminating of any fanbase (if you can even call them that) not to mention they eclipse every other in terms of numbers - one of the reasons why just about anything any pop artist releases is gonna get airplay and make it onto peoples ipods and shit whereas in more 'esoteric' spheres artists are actually (usually) called out and receive some form of backlash when they release something thats deemed to be subpar.

Then theres the fact that even tho they release a recording of them sharting into a mic and it would still be lapped up by the masses, many choose to use ghost writters. Basically becomes piss easy karaoke.

So does Garm's voice sound better on this because I slightly remember not liking it that much on their last album. That one was recorded live tho so it might be better in the studio?

Garm has the most majestic voice coming from such a burly fellow.

How similar is the rest of this album to Nemoralia? I'm getting some good late night driving vibes from that opening track.
