YoYo knows what's up. Debut will never be topped. Also everyone is forgetting South East facing wall

I liked this about as much as the debut right now, but it's also new. I feel like this is the perfect in-between of Throw Me in the River and No One Gets Lost, with the added benefit of the production being better and the performances tighter. It's as cohesive with its narrative or lyrical progression as Throw Me in the River was, and as ambitious as that album, but -- of course, this is arguable -- I think instrumentally this is quite better. Of course, with this band, it all comes down to the songwriting, and I don't think this is as catchy as No One Gets Lost, which will probably always be my favourite, but I find this more consistent than their last album.

I'm sure that'll change, though.

For me, in its structure. I don't think it's more ambitious than the band's been in the past; someone mentioned that it's been promoted as their "most ambitious" work to date, which I disagree with, too - the band never seem to have let up in attempting to make the best thing possible, this being no exception. But the structure of this album is very well-conceived, both musically and lyrically. It follows a narrative progression with relative ease, and it does so in a way that doesn't feel too linear and is constantly throwing curveballs (e.g. Shine and 25 breaking up the middle of the album). It's unrelenting and never not building towards something. I also do think, despite a lot of dud lines and some of his cheesiest, this is some of Wil's best writing.

Awesome response blush, and listening to this w lyrics now, I'm appreciating that it is a bit more ambitious than I thought as far as the writing and concept goes

Agreed, you can always count on Wil for a couple of tattoo-worthy lines. "This is not work ethic / it's survival technique."

Also Throw > debut > South East Facing > Sunshine > Don't Fuck

dunno where this new one goes yet

Suffer may be my song of the year so far. The lyrics are absolute brilliance. Really fucking awesome musically as well.

Throw Me In The River is still better after my second listen of this.

This is really really good though

Them not changing to much has really been a great thing for them unlike many bands that attempt the same thing. They have too much to say to be confined to an album or 2 with the same same sound without getting boring

This is my least favorite LP release by them so far. Yes the songs are good but I expect more growth and development in their sound by their fourth album. It feels like rehashed ideas when the songs can easily fit into their other albums. This fact bothers me. Stop complaining so much Wil. Your life is hard, we get it.
