"Might end up being the best shoegaze of the year" if this and a new Turnover are the only contenders in the projected-listening pool then i daresay this has a shot

Great review. Didn't care much for the record though

What's it similar too?
I have 'Pyg' 5'd but have to admit 'Souvlaki' is a weak 4 for me, guess the style of this leans towards the latter?
|
| |
I'm not familiar with Pyg but this def harkens back to Souvlaki. It's basically a no-frills shoegaze record with a "we're back bitches" statement

Is this more like Souvlaki or Just For a Day?

It has elements from all their LPs imo
Basically a collection of elements they've explored made into a more accessible album

I'd say aesthetically, it's closer to Souvlaki with the exception of Falling Ashes, which is closer to the sparse sound that Pygmalion had. Go Get It is probably the sole exception in which it sounds like neither and hopefully gives us an idea on what could be next.
Also, if they really are doing another album, they need to get Eno back on board.
