I've been a fan of this band for about 9 years now and despite it taking a good few years for me to appreciate the self-titled record as much as I do, right out of the gate I absolutely adore this album. I love the contrast of the bubbly, poppy tone with the darker thematic atmosphere in the lyrics.

Easily one of their best in terms of overall sound and creativity. Brand New Eyes is one of my all time favourite albums but this might just make number 2 for the Paramore discography.

Not bashing the old records, they (and this tbh) are good shit, just laughing about the notion of them ever being punk in any way whatsoever

They've always kinda been lumped in under the pop-punk/punk-rock/pop-rock umbrella, but I agree. They're not the Ramones.

I wanna live in a world where mid 2000s paramore were "head banging punk-rockers".

Well it was definitely hard to pinpoint their previous album since it had pop, punk, gospel choirs, post-rock, indie, etc. It was like an assortment of diverse candies. It was definitely under appreciated, even though it lacked any sort of cohesion. Good music for ADD folks. This one is pretty standard pop/new wave but they were definitely emo pop before self titled. I loved their last album and this as well. I think they've changed without selling themselves out.

Sowing, I knew you of all people would mention No Friend. Nice to see that song get a bit of recognition. Wish it was a bit easier to understand what was being said, but it nice to hear Weiss on a Paramore track. I knew right away it was him, and nearly jumped on my first listen.

As far as the actual album, it's definitely enjoyable. While I admittedly prefer their older stuff, I do like their shift into a more "poppy" sound with their self-titled and now After Laughter.

Just gotta say Rose Colored Boy is easily the best song on here.

Definitely pop-punk, their first two

They were always a pop-punk/emo band no? Not really well versed on their backcatalogue but never categorized them as "headbangers"

Review is a great read as usual tho, just to be clear.

First 4 songs are superb, then after those this gets pretty inconsistent but I wouldn't say bad. I was never a big fan of the spoken word vocals in mewithoutyou or here, but the instrumentation is nice. 26, Pool, and Tell Me How are amazing.

Mad at how terribly Aaron's feauture is mixed.

I think it's mixed that way intentionally. They want it to be unintelligible.

Personally I agree though; could have been a killer track if they let him rip.

I sorta like how they mixed it, it makes sense since it's sort of an interlude track

but yeah just letting him rip it up might've worked better
