I love how three different reviews for this album have been featured on the front page - first TVC's, then Green Baron's, and now Sowing's

It's a popular album for better or worse.

I gotta respect Sowing for being such a stalwart pop defender although that also makes me wonder if i'd want to go to him for music recs or not.

I tend to enjoy indie-folk stuff the most, but I have a sweet tooth for pop melodies - whether they're born of talent or merely a cash grab doesn't register too much in the forming of my opinion as long as I enjoy it. I can love the hell out of a straight up $sales$ record. I don't expect anyone to see what I see in this. Maybe I'm just a sucker for LP. If that damages my credibility that's okay, because I'd rather be seen as an honest fool who some can relate to and others can't than someone who molds an image that isn't true to himself. I'll jam Jane Doe and then follow that up by spinning 1989 and Emotion back to back; that's just how I roll. People can feel free to condemn this as bad pop all they want as long as they've actually listened to it, it's just as fair as me praising the record after all. For whatever reason though, the hooks and melodies on this keep me coming back.

Fucking Forbes.

"One More Light was fronted by the single “Heavy,” which was a surprising shift in style for a band that helped bring nu metal and screamcore to the masses"

.....SCREAMCORE?

You have my respect 3-fold now. Being an honest fool is infinitely better than being a bitch who says "Nicki Minaj is shit" strictly because they're afraid to admit they actually enjoy Nicki Minaj (obviously this applies to any music). I'm still not persuaded into thinking i'll enjoy this but i'll without a doubt listen to this.

I totally "get" the 1s for this but if we're being totally honest only a couple songs here are like, irredeemably bad. Most of this is just inoffensive and dull, and frankly there are still a few actual bright spots on this.

Being a bit too dull and boring is what brings this into the 1.5 territory. The mixing doesn't help. But in reality this is closer to a 2 than anything

I went on YouTube to see what the dislike/like ratio for the songs from this album are, and they are getting pretty well received for the most part. Not Linkin Park's finest work, but the songs all stand on their own pretty well. It's like some people would rate most the songs on this album between a 2.5 and 4 individually, but somehow when they are all put together in a single album the record gets a 1 or 1.5

Sputnik is a niche scene dedicated mostly to indie and metal, that's why.

I generally don't put too much stock in YouTube likes or iTunes reviews or anything like that, they're generally inundated with fanboys who 5-star everything and call records such as Blurryface life changing.

This site is a pretty good overall barometer compared to other places on the internet, as even though we have our focus genres we're pretty open-minded and receptive to all kinds of music.

yeah honestly despite the fact that you could definitely subtract .5 from most new artsy metal releases, this site doesn't seem that biased to me

Green Baron, it's high but there are still way more likes than dislikes.

Sowing, yeah I agree that those aren't the best places to go for ratings. Although, if the album sucked as much as a lot of people think it does it seems like it would be odd the like/dislike ratio to be pretty decent for all the songs.

Rodrigo90, luv u too bro.

I meant the lyric video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp00DMy3aVw)

which is at about a 2.8:1 ratio - that's not good

Ah, that makes sense. I checked the official video one and was like "that's not really that bad a ratio," lol. Agreed, the ratio on the lyric video is pretty bad for sure.
