It could be that this album takes multiple listens to fully open up to the listener, which is weird since a vast majority of their previous albums were instant hits for me. Still, I find Superstition and Walking with strangers to be their strongest albums and this one didin't quite meet my expectations. It's not bad, but it's not great either. Without You, Counterpane and Hex are great songs, but the album was a minor disappointment in general.

I feel like they've moved closer to mastering their sound in this one. It feels very confident, especially in the layering of many little details.
I've got this idea of binging the discog to make a ranked + favorite songs list but knowing myself it's gonna take a couple years

I would say that pins and needles and this album are tied though to be honest. Damn that's tough, 3-5 are so close in quality for me.
