Many thanks for the introduction to this band. Still in the midst of my first spin, and I'm loving every minute. The mixing on the bass is fantastic.

reading this review, it sounds like you're trying to sell the record harder than you really feel about it... (saying "i might be exaggerating") that kind of scares me as a reader if i was a fearing man
also that doesn't really tell me much about the album... and framing the review with "history in the making?" is kinda odd... like if an album speaks that profoundly to you why are you asking it as a question...?
i get the sense that this album sounds weird, like it's birthing a new genre, this band has something special no other band has and their obvious strength is thriving within the nonsensical... interesting points but i challenge dat u didnt really stretch to support your own ideas in a cohesive way. also a lot of the sounds you described fit with other bands like Deerhunter or Maps & Atlases er a lot of post rock bands. ain't hatin just love communicatin

hey thanks for the feedback its much appreciated!
I definitely agree that I was trying to sell the album more or less but the apprehension to call this the birth of a genre is mostly because that's a pretty bold claim to make. I have no idea if other bands a few years down the road will actually start mimicking this style of music, I was just trying to emphasize the uniqueness of this band (hence the more informal, personal tone). Also explains the summary but I agree it could be a bit less unsure of itself.
Although I don't listen to much of Deerhunter/Maps & Atlases I feel like my descriptions don't really fit with the sound of those bands at all. I actually thought I went a bit overboard on describing the music this time compared to the last few reviews ive written, but that's really what fascinates me most about this band.
all love here tho my friend dw. always tryna improve myself as a writer so thank you again (:
also happy to see that 4!

Sweet review connor. A tad short, but eh, it's fairly short itself. Such a killer record

I love this band and record–––interesting progression from Trading Basics, even if it's not where they are now with their sound (this was recorded two years ago). For anyone trying to make sense of their style(s), I encourage you to check out the early 80s group This Heat, particularly their album Deceit. While their apparent influence is even more noticeable in Trading Basics, this record almost sounds like an upbeat, mathier version of TH, if poppier Animal Collective was somehow involved in writing the vocal lines (that last part is an odd comparison, I know, but I hear it all over this)

It's not an odd comparison at all, really. You can hear the AC/Panda Bear vocal influence all over this thing

charming little EP, am I the only one hearing some AnCo in this?

This thing has the loveliest sound. All the angular guitars and those male/female vocals, something about it's just so pleasant, even when things are intense. Something about it reminds me of TWIABP, just in how it makes me feel at times. Thanks for this, Con! will easily end up one of the best of the year.
