All finished.
Back half has a few less than engaging tracks (besides the closer, which is killer) that I can't figure out if they're growers or just mediocre/average...time will tell. The rest is celebratory and beautiful - truly a hug of thunder. Album title is oddly apt.
This gets a 4 for now with potential to go higher if certain songs gain traction in my mind.

The title track is one of the best tracks I've heard all year. Can't wait to listen to this.

"Back half has a few less than engaging tracks"
First half is so good tho. I wanna 4 this but there's too much inconsistency on that latter half.

There was some hushed conversation in Olympus. We weren't planning on ushering in any new contribs or staff until next year, but LandDiving and Butcherboy have just been killing it so they got the nod.
Also, bumped this to a 4.5. There's something missing here in the realm of grit/depth, but holy shit is it glorious. I'd say it's spirited as hell, but there's nothing hellish about this. It's like floating to heaven - nay, riding a party boat to heaven - and then getting banged by supermodels while a live band scores the euphoria from atop a puffy white cloud.
Or something.

The band still skirt a little too close to 'latter day U2', once you realise their song writing is really just Bono cluttered up and hipster-fied you can't quite ever fully un-hear the association

Overall this is a pretty great package. Protest song and vanity pail kids are absolutely killer; some of the best songs I've heard this year. Album does seem a little front loaded tho
