Kalmah and Wintersun are definitely melodeath, bodom maybe a little closer to the edge but still melodeath
it's like saying carcass is just thrash with harsh vocals

That's so cool and all, but guess what, power metal also can employ that.
Carcass is melodic death metal, just listen to the bands I mentioned and there is a huge difference.

Kalmah was always too heavy to even remotely be considered power metal. The only thing they've got from power metal is the energy in their songs. Norther is way more like power metal with harsh vocals, but Kalmah's always been way heavier than that

Listening to Awaken From The Dark Slumber with headphones rn and omg the production is possibly the worst ever. It's sad though because the music is perfectly good.
