Great - and very involving - review, "the Australian Andy Hull". Loved the first 2 paragraphs especially, right down to the tracks chosen to reference.

I haven't heard 'Cope' yet... Which is strange, since Simple Math was almost my album of that year!

thanks davey! I think Wil Wagner may have stolen that Australian Andy Hull title from me, the sneaky bastard

Cope is... not great, but it's also not bad. definitely nowhere near Simple Math in sound or quality, but it's worth a listen at least

"highly anticipating a condescending p4k review that pegs this at a ~5 and implies they're above listening to Manchester Orchestra"

but hey according to p4k their albums get progressively better. (ratings in chronolgical order: 5,1; 5,2; 5,5; 5,6) So I predict a generous 5.9 on this one.

Also cope was garbagio my friend.

Pro tip: Simple math is better, but their best song is I can feel a hot one (which is on Mean Everything to Nothing) .

YES Rowan, you are the man. (Only saw the score, didn't even read the review yet). Will read shortly. Was pretty certain whoever reviewed this wouldn't see what I see in it, but I was wrong.

OK just read this from first to last word and all I can say is it might be my new favorite review. Your entire experience in 2011 mirrors mine and how I discovered MO and the Dear Hunter; then your description of this record is so spot on that for the first time in a while, I'm genuinely happy someone else reviewed an album I'm exceedingly passionate about and even want to increase my score. Just...keep writing, dude. And please take this torch while you're at it.

I feel like they're two of the weakest tbh

At first they seem like the standouts but after several listens the others catch up and many surpass (especially Moth, Lead, Wolf, and Silence)
