This is definitely rapidly growing for me. I had it at 3.0 on my first listen about 6 months ago. Sure the hazy production robs the vocals of their previous power and punch but the production also really sings to my shoegaze obsessed youth. For me this now currently takes its place as album number 2 after TGS.

I could almost get TGS being "unlistenable" to someone for the sheer density of it, but I have a hard time understanding someone not liking Wake/Lift but enjoying ADOM (or anything that came after Anesthete). W/L is like the foundation of everything they did moving forward.

I like the new direction they took here and think they needed a shift in their sound. For me at least they were beginning to sound stale in QE. And I think I’m in the minority as I really love The Anaesthete.

I do too, but I don't think it stands up to the previous 3 at all.
With QE I had almost given up on Rosetta, as I really thought City of Ships was super yawn-inducing on repeated listens, and adding Eric just made QE feel the same.
I feel better after Utopioid, but not THAT much better.

Plotting their journey after TGS and W/L they have been moving ever further from that sound. I still struggle with ADOM, just can’t work out how I feel about it. I thought TA had some really strong songs and much preferred it overall. And QE is kind of in a no mans land. I’m just really happy with Utopioid as an album experience though, but have no idea what this means for their future, whether they will Continue deeper into the hazy gaze sound. I suspect that clean vocals will be an ever present element now, which for this new sound fits very well.
What or who is City of Ships?

I rarely come back to listen to ADOM as an album but Release is such a banger (especially that ending holy shit). The title track is a contender for top songs of all time for me. Every time I hear that opening bassline it shakes me to the core.

Yeah ADOM might be their best for me, honestly.

Ehhhh I dunno, Terra Sola possessed none of the haziness that Utopioid did. I consider that to be where they're headed next.

Title track on ADOM is a great agreed.

Oh get on it for sure. The title track is a knockout, and the rest is worthy ambience to follow it. Easy to stick on repeat for a bit.

I've been thinking about what direction they'll go in for the next full length for a while now. Doesn't matter to me. I love all of this stuff. Dare I say this has become one of my fave releases from them. We must be getting a new full length this year??

I’m not on social media so don’t get to hear much - but certainly in the music press I haven’t hear any news about new releases due this year - but just had a spin of Terra Sola again and really keen to hear some new stuff and find out what they will sound like now.

Someone asked them on their Facebook and the band responded saying they haven't been playing together or writing during the pandemic. I read that maybe a few months back. Probably no new albums until at least 2022.

It will be well over due and with a lot of anticipation building by the time it arrives - but as CoL have proved, even this late in the post metal game - the oldies can still come out with something fresh and amazing. Raging River and Dawn to Fear were a real treat.
