And this was a bad decision

This is really interesting that the collector's edition is backwards. It's because the album tells two different stories, one about a rapper who realizes that he needs to stay humble and not go into that "gangster" self destructive life style and realizes that he should be thankful for his life and his career. And the other is about a rapper who gets to full of himself and ends up dying because of it. This is why Damn is my favourite Kendrick album and also why I think that it's going to change the rap game and I am excited to see what other rappers are going to do now that this piece of gold is out. It's the new "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy".

Ending the album with BLOOD. seems like a hilarious oversight that should’ve been one of the very first things to fix if you were to go for a reverse set list. You’re essentially following up the high energy of DNA, meant to build up to for the rest of the album, with little more than a slow opening track that makes no sense to end as a closer. The very last thing you’d hear on this album is a voice clip from Fox News lambasting Kendrick’s music. If there ever was a belief that this album was meant to be played in reverse, the least that could have been done was some omissions to patch up these narrative holes, but that comes at the cost of neutering the product from its initial vision anyway. Artistically, this release makes no sense.
This review is fine, but I don't agree with this idea. Ending the album with a Fox News clip is a great point to make i.e. no matter how successful he is there will always be other voices trying and possibly succeeding at drowning his voice out.

I don't think that's the last idea that you'd want to close an album on though. Duckworth is a much better note to close on.

Why would this warrant a classic score in any scenario?

Duckworth is a much better note to close on.
It's a different note, but necessarily a better one. The original version ends with life and this one ends with death.

The same can be asked about the 1s tbh

Duckworth is the best of both worlds imo. It fits that death scenario at the end of the song after Kendrick tells us the circumstances leading to his success that makes it feel more impactful after having a whole album played before it.
And as for the 1. It's for an awful execution of a great album.

I agree with all of that plane. The problem is people already saw this record as a step down from TPAB. It's hard for artists to sell multiple concepts and commercial appeal together without putting a bad taste in the mouths of all their fans.

You know, which is it? Is this album a banger or a commentary? People have trouble getting more than one thing out of media.

I think it's his best as well, prob in my personal top 10 all time too, but idk I've listened to the album backwards multiple times before this and I just don't see it

The multiple concepts aren't the issue for me, I just don't see how you could get something from this backwards that you couldn't forwards. I like the flow the album has as Kendrick deconstructs all these aspects of his being that starts off heavy, emotional, and heated then ends up delving deeper into what makes him feel the way he does on tracks like fear where he's looking back throughout his life. I like the way its presented more on the OG version. I think that's the way Its supposed to be and if it isn't why wasn't it put out backwards to begin with? It'd have been a bigger revelation if the forward way was the alternative way then I think.

"God" is still my favorite from this record. The beat just washes over you. It's the best fit for a spiritual theme.

I don't really like love either. My favorites are probably feel, fear, and lust

I see the album making more sense as starting with a strong reaction than introspection following death. The music is still great regardless. I just connect better to it the way when it first came out
