It didn't compared to black panther. Sure it won best picture and got great reviews, but it didn't penetrate the mainstream nearly as much and it didn't have the political pundits jumping up and down about it. (Black Panther almost has as many IMDB ratings after the first week as Moonlight after nearly 2 years and roughly 200 awards.)
@ Key I didn't say that I'm shocked. But I also don't think it's good, just because it's to be expected.

haven't seen Moonlight but Black Panther making all the money isn't a small deal and I have no idea why you'd think otherwise
like yeah it's still a safe Marvel movie at the end of the day, but it's a safe Marvel movie that made considerably more money than some of the other comparable safe Marvel movies despite an all-black cast in a subgenre that rarely has any well-rounded black characters at all
and maybe that'll translate into greenlighting more diverse projects all the way up and down the budget scale, maybe it won't
but saying people are making too big a deal of it is just odd

Lol I'm not annoyed that people like this movie. I'm mildly annoyed about the "political" dialouge around this average super hero movie, because there is nothing special about this movie. Except that most of the cast is black. (also i disliked almost every super hero movie that came after the Dark Knight and that probably contributes to this opininon)
