I liked Ragnarok a lot but slightly prefer this. The story and villain are upgraded from a typical Marvel movie. Ragnarok is more fun to watch though.

"Ragnarok destroyed this tbh"
I haven't seen it to be fair. but the first 2 movies were buttcheeks, so u can't blame me. I regret seeing justice league instead smh
"Except that most of the cast is black"
um that's what's special about the movie to ppl. if u don't like the movie that's fine, but don't pretend like u don't understand why it's dominating discourse and the box office

The important thing about The Black Panther is representation in big blockbuster movies, so it hopefully paves the way for more diversity and representation in Hollywood films.
People should look at the big picture though: This is still another Marvel movie designed to make money, it's not some grand political statement that some are making it out to be. It's also not the best comic book movie ever made, not even the best Marvel movie, but it's one of the better ones.
You also have to be pretty naive to not understand why more people are talking about Black Panther than the art-house indie movie Moonlight lol
Edit: I say these things as a pretty big fan of the MCU overall. Also this is just a better movie than Moonlight, which was good but not quite as compelling or great as I was expecting.

I agreed with everything you said Talons but wtf was that

we should be more looking forward to 'black punter: the life and times of reggie roby'

I should like Moonlight more, but the lack of a real story and the really slow pace weakened it. I liked the structure of how we followed the protagonist's life and the surreal flashbacks though.

Moonlight is overrated agreed

Soundtrack had so much potential, especially with Kendrick heading it.
Sad!

Omg @ the people who are coming out and telling me that black panther is a better than Moonlight. I think i've never been this triggered in my entire life.
"um that's what's special about the movie to ppl. if u don't like the movie that's fine, but don't pretend like u don't understand why it's dominating discourse and the box office"
I don't pretend to not understand it. I do understand it and I don't like it. I resent the fact that our cultural discourse is this dumb.

Agreed
But you can create representation by doing a decent movie

"bullshit, representation is pretty damn important."
ummm... is maybe somewhat important. I don't think it's at all bad that there is a black cast in a super hero movie. I just don't agree that this alone makes the film worthwile. Moonlight or 12 Years a Slave are movies that actually deal maturely with specific issues in the (for a lack of a better word) "black experience" in America and while they got rightfully praised by critics they didn't have nearly this cultural force behind them.
I also think the "no representation for black people in Hollywood" is overblown. (Look at the oscars so white controversy for example: Blacks are represented almost perfectely when you compare it to the amount of black people in the US https://www.economist.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/800-width/images/2016/01/blogs/prospero/20160123_woc197.png)

Dark Knight is the proof that you can create a good superhero movie.
You just need good plot and characters with interesting development (is it really that difficult to add some internal conflict or tough decisions?) which is something Marvel never does. It's always: "Omg dat villain is doin' meanie things, let's defeat him and end up winning cause we're the good guys". You might also add the death of a character to try to make the movie more serious yet it doesn't work cause, as I said, if there's no character development, it is difficult for a death to even produce something in you
Deadpool's great too, but I think we all agree on that being a totally different approach

i don't know what goes thru the execs' heads when planning superhero movies, like it really hurts sales so much to at least try something interesting?
Deadpool's great too [2]

Dark Knight is butts
Iron Man is the only great superhero movie cuz it worked beyond that level. I kind of hate it in retrospect for spawning this endless tsunami of geekdom that has consumed the entire globe.
edit: why on earth would they take any risks or put any effort into a product the masses eagerly lap up like cheap whiskey at the homeless shelter
