I love Teen Dream and all but it’s like their 4th best. Don’t see why so many get hung up on that album and influence their thoughts because of it.

Teen Dream is their most consistent collection of great songs. There unlike anywhere else in their discog does the quality of the songwriting take precedence over the beauty of the sound - not that the sounds in that record aren’t gorgeous as well.

I just see it more as a stepping stone than some revelation. It seems to me that Victoria was still working on her voice then. It kinda cracked at moments and “Real Love” and “Lover of Mine” made me want to rip my eardrums out at parts. Not trying to sound bad but her voice just irked me in parts of that album, though, yes, it does have some of their best moments. I think Bloom did what Teen Dream wanted to do, and much much better. I guess I can see where her voice may have lost earnestness in the process, but it’s much better at least for me. I think this and Bloom are much more consistent. I’d much prefer the period of Bloom to now than their early days by far (though I wasn’t big on TYLS)

Yeah I’ve said it before but to me Bloom is on another level, the songwriting and production are incredible

'Not trying to sound bad but her voice just irked me in parts of that album' [2]

the singing on this is way better than it is on teen dream.

Teen Dream just had the band's 'song ideas explosion' - most bands only get one true burst of inspiration like that

'Zebra' sounds nothing like 'Norway' sounds nothing like 'Walk in the Park' sounds nothing like 'Used to Be' sounds nothing like '10 Mile Stereo' sounds nothing like 'Real Love'...

A lot of the songs that followed sounded like re-runs at least to some degree.

Now that my opinion of this has finally settled, my Beach House discog ranking:

Teen Dream [4.5] = Depression Cherry [4.5] > 7 [4] > Bloom [3.5] > Thank Your Lucky Stars [3] > Devotion [2.5] = self-titled [2.5]

I'll get back to you on my finalized rating but revisiting the first two for the first time in about seven years or something like that:

Teen Dream [4.7] > 7 [4.2] > Bloom [4.0] > s/t (debut) [3.8] > Devotion [3.2] > Depression [3.0] > "Me Lucky Charms" [2.8]

The debut is totally different, very lo-fi, the melodies stand out though and it has real charm.

The two I might be underrating are Dep Cherry and Devotion which I find the 'samey-ist'

That might be the most different discog ranking/rating you and I have Doof! The first two albums do absolutely nothing for me, there are maybe 3 great songs between them.

Gun to my head I’d probably say Depression Cherry is my most favoritest but it’s real tough for me to choose between that and Teen Dream; both are masterpieces in their own ways.

My current Beach House top 20 songs:

2. Myth

3. Used to Be

4. Space Song

5. Drunk in LA

6. Traveller

7. L'Inconnue

8. Zebra

9. On the Sea

10. Elegy to the Void

11. Norway

12. Master of None

13. Wild

14. 10 Mile Stereo

15. Last Ride

16. Some Things Last a Long Time

17. Woo

18. Irene

19. Turtle Island

20. Take Care

I'll keep listening to the first two and will revisit Dep Cherry and TYLS to see if anything goes up the rankings

My top 20 would basically just be most of Teen Dream and Depression Cherry (leave out Silver Soul, Better Times, 10:37, Wildflower, and Bluebird), plus Wild, Myth, Elegy to the Void, Drunk In LA, L’inconnue, and Last Ride.

Boney, our top songs are roughly the same then, other than you've found a few more good songs on Depression Cherry

I’d say my ranking is Bloom > (or equal to) 7 > Depression Cherry > Teen Dream > Devotion > Beach House > Thank Your Lucky Stars... I feel like Beach House has kinda become one of my all-time favs right now
