as I tried to explain, don’t go into this thinking it’s Tame Impala

I think you maybe overstate the originality of this record, because it's as derivative of Dungen as her debut was of Broadcast and Tame Impala. I don't think there's anything unique about the music itself, but more so the way songs are disjointedly stitched together.

hmmm have only heard 1 Dungen album but I did see that someone from that band helped produce this. i’d say that’s the original touch, though, just how absurd and unique the structures are to the songs despite, as I mentioned, it still taking from many different artists / genres. not sure she had a mark that obvious on her last which is really what sets this one apart

there was a point during "visions of someone special" that i realized, "hey, the arpeggios are gone!" she made a huge leap on this album in her songwriting. i'm gonna need a bunch of listens on this to really sink in to it.

after relistening i think i still like her debut a tiny lil more... there's a warmth in it i'm particulary fond of that deeper and more layered production kinda take away from. Not saying she hasn't grown as an artist, and i'm glad this is different that her debut, but i... I'm just more cozy when i'm listening to s/t

totally understand rabid, it's a tough one for me but the excitement of this release has prob pushed it ahead of the debut....for now

Just gonna say that I think this album was a hot mess. Wasn't expecting her debut part 2, but it's definitely a lot less accessible and sounds psych for the sake of it. Lot of random noises and squeals throughout, and her voice sounds like it's gone down a little bit. Props for her coming back after all she went through, but this album is disappointing.

Great review Con! This album sounds like two totally different bands playing on it. One is obviously Dungen, the other I guess is Melody doing her thing, so in that sense it makes it sound more inconsistent. I really do appreciate the sporadic approach of this album, as it jumps all over the place, but in a way that I surprisingly kinda enjoy.
At first I too thought it was a clusterfuck of a mess, but it's grown on me a ton especially the 2nd half of the album. Definitely don't go into this thinking it'll sound like her first album or Tame Impala. This is it's own beast. Also, you gotta check out more Dungen if you're digging this.

'it's like eating all five skittles at once'
For the record, user betray thinks that is acceptable and eats jellybeans by the handful. Calls me weird for eating the flavors separate.
Didn't read the review, I'm sure it's good though, Con.
