I think dacus's voice offers the best base for them to build on. Not sure if that was the actual reason though
Bridgers voice does something to me though. Whenever she sings on this I just feel so content

I love her voice.

Dacus definitely has a great voice. I thought some of the songs were longer than they needed to be on Historians, but she has a ton of potential
also this is quite pleasant, even if it doesn't offer anything we haven't really heard before

It really has great moments, but some (most) of the vocal melodies and guitar lines just scream Baker way too much. That combined with my... unfortunate... distaste for the Dacus makes this just an ok thing for me.

i believe there is a song on sprained ankle with some minimal drums
also can someone explain this to me:
“Phoebe would suggest an idea as a joke, and then we realized, ‘Wait, this is an amazing idea!’ Another example is the very last line of the record, cutting off the final two words, ‘When I’m home, I’m never there long enough,’ and it’s ‘long enough to know.’ That was a joke that Phoebe suggested, and then we were like, ‘This is brilliant, we need to do it that way.’”
how is that a joke?

Sounds like my Christmas holidays.

I read that, and I like to imagine that Baker and Dacus deliberately avoid taking Phoebe seriously, and that's why there's so little of her on the record. Phoebe suggests good ideas and they're like, "Oh Phoebe hahaha, you're a hoot! good one! now sit the fuck down." then in a roundabout way they return to her ideas because they have nothing better to offer, and refer to them as jokes so to not give her too much credit
that's all i got, doesn't make a lick of sense otherwise

No she herself said she'd propose ideas "as a joke" so that she wouldn't feel hurt if they didn't like them
I'm the same way sometimes

there is still plenty of her on the record, but yeah it feels like there's only one 'real' bridgers song here
another sort of weird thing - phoebe's voice is overdubbed at the beginning of me and my dog. sort of weird considering there are two other singers that could have been in the background

"I think the biggest problem with Baker is that she seems to just always put out Julien Baker songs. Is everything she ever does gonna sound the same???"
I think her voice is so distinctive that everything she does is going to sound sort of similar, unless she starts getting a full band involved. which sorta goes against her whole musical aesthetic up until this point, but her voice is huge enough to carry a full band and then some

This sure doesn't do much to establish these gals as disparate artists. Kinda makes me less interested in all of them tbh.

not sure how I feel about Bridgers here, but it's actually given me a stronger appreciation for Baker and Dacus

"wow is 'Stay Down' the first julien baker song with drums"
Vessels has some post-rockish drums did you ever listen to that song?
also I saw her live a couple months ago and she had like programmed drums for Sour Breath which was also the closer
