Judging from the reviewer's ratings, it doesn't look like he listens to a lot of modern metalcore. I also found the reviewer's assertion that fans of this band have been deluding themselves into enjoying their recent output, to be aggressively insular.
I can understand not enjoying the music, but to level heavy criticisms about this band sounding generic and unoriginal, is not fair. If you actually listen to the music it's pretty clear that these guys have a distinct sound and pack a lot of instrumental variety into their music.
There are a lot of heavier bands that are far more guilty of sticking to a formula that, for whatever reason, get a free pass here. The Black Dahlia Murder for example, are a great band that have basically written the same record for at least a decade.

I love the last album but I have purposefully avoided hearing any song from this as I am just not interested right now.

Hi @NonApplicable. Believe it or not, I was raised on metalcore! Bands like Killswitch, Trivium and (even though I've grown out of them) Bullet for my Valentine were actually gateway bands for me into Metal so I will always have an affinity towards it. Regarding Sleeps, I liked This is the Six and I loved Brainwashed. What I don't like is when a band constantly recycles their ideas and when fans fail to see it. I think older, highly influential bands like Motorhead and Slayer have built a career out of doing that, and I treat them as equally as I do to modern bands. It just so happens that this repetition materialises more prominently in metalcore than any other subgenre.

My score on this changes consistently, I go back and forth on how I feel about it, it is their weakest output however.

Swiss electronic artist Rustie released an album called Glass Swords in 2013, you could call it Swiss beats!

I know a song title isn't necessarily indicative to the quality of the music, but what's with artists/bands putting everything in all caps nowadays?

It would only be acceptable if the last track was "sry caps lock on"
But ye, trend is dumb, same for in lower case.... bmth's "i don't know what to say" or "i apologise if you feel nothing" track titles trigger me to no extent

@Chamberbelain I appreciate your level headed comment. You are also consistent with your logic regarding the older bands recycling their sound which helps me understand the perspective of this review. I still feel that the double standard of select bands getting praised or panned when recycling music, still generally exists on this site.
I think where we fundamentally disagree is that While She Sleeps are overly guilty of recycling. I can easily trace a distinct shift in sound and approach to songwriting on each release (from their debut EP to this release). Most of the negative critiques I've heard about this album are regarding all of the new ideas they've tried. Maybe they didn't pan out for a lot of people, but if anything that means While She Sleeps aren't strictly sticking to a formula.

sounds excatly as expected! Innovative? Nope.
Fun? definetely.
LP depends on if you're looking for something easy and fun listening to or if you really thought While She Sleeps will release the new milestone in modern metalcore.
Therefore, I really don't get the negative reviews and hype. The last LP already stated in which direction they will go, like it or not.
