this is so much better than anything else I have heard from this lass, what a journey. Might bump rating in the future but Movies is def early SOTY material

I'm kind of the opposite; I thought Everyday was far and away the best song and that Movies onward easily tops the first half (outside of Everyday)
Beautiful album, guess I'm not done with sad indie chicks after all

Thought I would put this down after reviewing but nope, three full listens today. Hovering over the 5 button...
I get you anatelier. On the first listen the second half can feel slight since it isn't obvious that "Movies" is the apex. But with that knowledge there's so much room to sink into afterwards. I'm loving "Mirror Forever" in particular, strong Have One On Me vibes.
Knew this would work for sowing. Lush + epic tends to be a winning combo for you. She ain't a sad chick! I find this so uplifting.
tyty blush, hope you dig this :3

this is like if ABBA fired the girls for the last album, hired Enya instead and also if this all happened in the 60s

I had wanted to check this out, the review convinced me further, but honestly @jasdevi, that comment completely sold me.

This is going to get a ton of well deserved hype. i think it's really beautiful and superbly arranged/orchestrated. I will say that the songwriting and lyrics especially leave a lot to be desired for me, but it's still a great album.

The piano lines remind me of Father John Misty and some other touches remind me of the 'Honeybear' album.
The song constructions and some of the ways she constructs lines of verses for her vocals reminds me of John Grant 'Queen of Denmark'.
The voice itself reminds me a little of Joni Mitchell at times and there are def some trad 70s folk touches here too.
I understand those my not be the references people want (Abba? Really? No) but they're the ones I'm hearing.
This is pretty good, will bump to a 4 - but the album is surprisingly trad in style actually. I like that, it does make this sound a bit like a vintaged classic on arrival.
4/5 for now.

I like the John Grant link, started hearing it after you mentioned.

More the start of the album than later on but I definitely hear it.
The FJM is more just the piano chord progressions and a few other small 'slightly psychedelic' touches
This is growing on me a lot though - one of those albums I can imagine most users (minus 100% metal pie chart'ers) getting something from. Boney would prob like this, Zak too maybe.

Yeah, finishing up my first spin right now, this is pretty Boney-core. Very 70s, lots of Joni in the voice. Kind of like Julia Holter without the wank. Not sure I’m gonna love this as much as RYM is but it’s definitely one of the best I’ve heard so far this year.

The production and arrangements on this are outstanding, really beautiful. I hear Patsy Cline and Lara Nyro in there too, along with FJM. Whatever influences you cite, she makes them into her own. This is really something.

God, the chorus melody of "Something to Believe" is so powerful. It doesn't stick out at first because of the surrounding tracks, but when it hits it's flooring.

found the opposite was true for me, having heard Movies already I spent the whole first half just waiting for it to start. it's a strong record though

yeah actually on my second go through i was kinda waiting for movies to roll around too. the only song i can say i don’t enjoy is mirror forever so i think that’s why everything up to movies is what i enjoy best
