Yeah the sheer length of this keeps me from wanting to ever give it another spin

Yeah, the album is too long
It obviously depends on the genre, but I think metal bands would win if they shortened the length of the albums and focused only on the best songs. 8/9 songs is enough

The production on this is really flat and lifeless. I could see these songs impacting me more with better production.

"this is arguably their most ambitious effort to date"
hell nah

Like Yawnsviking, it doesn't suck, but nothing inspired me to listen again. I'm sticking with the Oden and Twilight albums.

Versus the World is best Amon Amarth lets not kid ourselves.
Plus that cover is so epic and badass

VTW rules hard, agreed.

With Oden on Our Side is the best, but VTW is great. Twilight of the Thundergod was cool, it saw them really upping the riffs, production, songwriting, but it was the last interesting album. This album is so unbelievably vapid, but to be fair I can't even get past a few songs. It's all so predictable and shticky, generic, "viking" melodeath. Just hearing Johan sing stuff like:
"In the Realm of Muspelheim!"
"Fllyyyy mighty hammer of Odin's Son!"
"By the Raven's flight to Nifelheim!"
Used to love these guys, but just wish they would stop at this point.

I always found everything after their debut album up to With Odin on our Side mostly dull.
Their debut is still my favorite album of theirs though

Nothing's as bad as twilight and deceiver tho
although this is close

Lmao what a TERRIBLE opinion. Twilight is one of their best
That being said, after the comment about VTW, I had to finally check that one. Honestly might already be my favorite of theirs now holy shit

Twilight is basically a watered down version of their earlier sound for the masses. Very simple, boring, and not memorable. Oh, and most songs are atrociously structured too. Guardians of assguard is a perfect example of that. Or endless ocean, for that matter.
Oden and VTW, on the other hand, see them at their peak performance.

oh yeah dude Versus the World starts with 'Death in Fire', a song they used to close every set with and still play. It's so sick.
Guardians of Asgaard is overrated imo but every track on there is a banger. Embrace of the Endless Ocean is one of their best tracks. The Hero and Varyags of Miklagaard fuckin m////

Versus is top three for me. Check new Tyr if this left you wanting.

I'd recommend just listening to Be'Lakor instead of any of this new AA stuff.

Yes, Be'lakor is ♥

Dont care about the rest.

Crusher and Avenger have too badass of covers to not care about them. At least check out 'A Fury Divine' off The Crusher because that solo rules

The Avenger and The Crusher aren't my favorites but they have some sick jams.
VTW definitely slays though. When I saw them last, they still closed with Death in Fire. I wanna say it was 2-3 years ago, or whenever they were at HoB Cleveland last.

I was at that show. It was Sunday, May 1st 2016
Anyway I think they played Seigreicher Marsch after that, which they often leave to the end too
