@Sinternet imagine thinking edgy contrarianism is a rebuttal, don't hurt yourself thinking too deeply when media can just tell you what to think broski. Tell me more about how destroying the TPP, passing criminal Justice reform, earmarking billions to clean up the oceans and proposing trillions in infrastructure spending are all evil Republican policies, let me see those mental backflips

Anyways, the album. This guy on The BR Page sums up my views on why it rubs some fans the wrong way:

"It is basically the idea of creating a partisan, them vs. us political climate by placing too much importance on fringe groups. Giving those groups far more weight than they deserve, and then using them as boogymen to bolster your political position. Hofstadter witnessed McCarthyism first hand and focused largely on that in his essay. But it applies to any political lean. The right uses it often; immigrants, socialists, muslims, ect. Antifa or Black Lives Matter would be current examples. These are relatively small groups but some on the right treat them like they massive threats to their way of life. Paranoia. It's been happening here since the Salem Witch Trials.

"The Left is not immune to it either, however. The "Alt Right" is a scary concept, but in reality, are they really substantial enough to warrant the paranoia and attention the left gives them? Probably not. In the 90s, the militia movement was another example. Actual militia members probably numbered around 1000 at the most nationally. Most were fat, out of shape white guys. Hardly much of a threat given the media coverage given and concern raised from the left.

"All and all, the 'Paranoid Style' is just a lazy way to stir up and scare the masses. Not unlike Religion. That, and the fact that it bolsters the" us vs. them" mentality, makes it antithetical with what BR has stood for all along. I mean, they have an excellent song called Them and Us for crying out loud. Facts, good. Consensus as fact, bad. TKAAR is a very side-taking song and it is using the Paranoid Style, IMO.

"As far as Trump, I probably hate him as much as Brett. He is a windbag, a clown, and has totalitarian and fascistic tendencies. But, as I've said before, it would be much more BR-ish to explore why Trump was elected. Who elected him. How does it relate to other such reactionary type events in American History. And don't fall for "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap. Mainstream Dems are not your friends just because they oppose Trump. Lastly, leave the blunt, clever-but-not-really-clever "Fuck Trump" songs to Fat Mike or any number of others in the scene. BR has always had a more cerebral way of addressing insane current events.

Fucking this. They're just capable of better, it really doesn't matter where you sit politically.

The times we live in. Everything is polarized to the nth degree, it wasn't always this bad. When it's nothing but hysteria 24/7 from every information outlet and everyone's in their camps, no one wants to just talk, it's sad. There's a lot more common ground between people than the reactionaries on both sides will ever admit

"Except the KKK, socialism, and Nazis came from left-wing authoritarianism, Marx and Democrats, and classically support bigger and more intrusive governments to push through their agendas (the opposite of right-wing ideology), but nice try."

The Gray Race is criminally underrated, I don’t liken this to it at all. It’s closer to The Dissent Of Man than anything, and yes this record is definitely half terrible. Some songs are undeniably great (The Approach, Chaos From Within, title track). I just don’t get the folksy side to them (Candidate, Downfall) that’s what I despised about Dissent. I feel like this record stood a chance to be a big statement but the bottom just falls out right at the end and the band is just standing there shrugging their shoulders. It’s never a good sign when the word I use to describe this album is “frustrating”

@Trebor since you're a simpleton I'll trot it out for you:

- The KKK were a Democrat militia/terrorist organization created to scare black people and Republicans away from voting. Jim Crow laws, racial eugenics, anti-suffrage, anti-Civil Rights Act, all Democrat policies too. The Republican Party was literally created by abolitionists to fight slavery and racism - in fact, the Republicans had black Congressmen in office over a hundred years before the Democrats. The Southern Strategy platform / party shift is a myth propagated by the left and Dems to whitewash and project their own history of supporting violent and racist ideologies, shitdick.

- Hitler based 90% of Nazi ideology on Marx and socialism, you can read their own economic platform and his and Goebbels' own words verifying that. The Nazi Party used nationalist themes to sell socialist economic planning as a superior alternative to internationalist Communism and Marxist socialism, it's really not that complicated to figure out. They directly competed for Communist votes because they knew any Communist could easily support Nazism's similar policies. They allowed nominal capitalism as long as the means of production, distribution and profit were controlled by and to the benefit of the State - in other words, socialism;

- Left wing, i.e., liberalism, progressivism inevitably and logically leads to collectivism, increased state control over the citizen's lives, and centralized state planning, i.e., socialism, communism, fascism and Nazism, ultimately all different offshoots and interpretations of Marxist philosophy and ideology.

Those are objective facts, idk what you're so buttmad about. Go back to your professor and tell him he failed you

"Democrats were racist back in the 20s" and "the Nazis were socialist actually" are some really good points that totally haven't been brought up and discredited hundreds if not thousands of times before.
