Also I kinda dig the lyrics on Ezra and Marla. At least, that was the most obvious song meaning wise and has an actual story

it might tell a story, but it's done so matter-of-fact. no flair, no style, just a vague, trite story.

"It’s 38 minutes of the same just-ok song."

this review could've been written about their debut and it would be the same

You're right, the bridge of "Yer Killing Me" was pretty unique, that's about it

Maybe the lyrics here are "deeper" and more thought out, i havent listened to the whole thing yet. But it could be a case of him just being better at writing down whatever dumb shit comes to his mind first and using them as lyrics. Some writers are better at that style. Regardless, lyrics dont mean shit if the music is boring.

i actually don't mind the whole twitter thing, if they truly believe in this music i'm not gonna rag em for being passionate about it and defending it. just not my thing really

Their defenses are stupid and they make strawman arguments. Being salty and getting into arguments with your fans isnt a good look, its pathetic. and if you cant handle people not liking your music maybe the music industry isnt for you, because you will have people on the internet mercilessly shitting on all your hard work, its inevitable.

Yeah like a true objective rating I’d probably give this a three or thereabouts, but the disappointment really knocks my score down, especially after the potential with the singles. That’s what I think is kind of ridiculous about the Twitter threads - People wanted the music to be good, it’s not like they’re lashing out just to last out. If I were the band, I’d look at that positively and just accept the shortcomings of the album (although that’s obviously easier said than done). Lashing out is just gonna ensure people don’t come back to it.

But yeah, I think I might find myself coming back to Around the Sun.
