Not to beat a dead horse, but I do think this is a good, well-written review... it's just a little disheartening that it's a staff review so I see where some of the criticism is coming from

I also don't think it should replace Slex's timely and well-written review as the default for this album. I get it, but nah

idk, personally, i think in some universe where i would be a shitty mod, i'd change Slex's from being featured to Trebor's, and then let Slex have the flagged review for the long-run yknow

this band doesn't have a wikipedia page. phew

why would they? two releases that no one's ever heard outside of acclaimed music review site sputnikmusic.com and a 6 year hiatus doesn't exactly scream "important enough for a wiki article"
hopefully that'll change soon

i thought this band was like a less popular touche amore, but apparently they're unknowns? wild

The complainers have given bad writing advice. The intro read well and established Trebor's emotional connection to the band. Yeah, yeah, a few grammatical errors like it's vs its, but all the sentiments came out.
I only dislike how much passive voice appears in the review, particularly this portion:
"The songwriting is so pure - existing only to evoke emotion and channel passion - that any genre trapping one might pick up on is incidental. Clairvoyant is thunder and lightning, it's felt before it’s understood, it's a force of nature that burrows into the skull and makes you all the better for it. State Faults isn't merely one of the best hardcore bands in North America, they're one of the best bands in the world, period. And Clairvoyant is their masterpiece - every note rings true, every chord is exactly where it needs to be, it’s passion, talent, and hard work distilled into a 36-minute record that can only be understood through experiencing it. For an album to truly be a masterpiece it has to be unique to the artist creating it, and Clairvoyant fits that to a tee, it's the product of everything the band has done and been through and it's made at 100% efficiency. It's daring and exhilarating, and crushing and cathartic, and a whole horde of other adjectives that can’t do it justice. "

tbh it's pretty hard to write music reviews without a lot of passive voice, and it definitely didn't bother me here. I rather liked that paragraph

If we're not allowed to say "is" then I'll quit writing altogether

I don't think it's bad advice to tell someone not to use so many full stops in their writing, but to each their own.

It's better than an abundance of comma splices.

In my writing at least I actively try to vary the long and short sentences to give it a nice rhythm and accentuate certain points

OK I've been jamming this record a ton over the past few days. Quite addicting and satisfying. It's nice to hear some new music that I actually really enjoy.
Not convinced it's a classic, but definitely a great release with some very strong tracks. The problems I mentioned in my previous are still there for me, but have lessened a bit in the face of the strengths of the album. Bumped to a 4. If it ends up having a ton of staying power for me I will consider a 4.5.

"This is hardcore's answer to Sunbather"
Yep, which is why it's kinda sad that I don't love this album like the majority vote.
This is the Rolo Tomassi/Daughters situation all over again. Though I do like this more than those two bands' 2018 albums, it's heavily similar in having at least one jarring issue that ultimately distances me from it. Time Will Die... had majorly inconsistent songwriting. YWGWYW had too much filler and directionlessness where it was clear that Daughters wasn't ready to tackle an album twice the size of their average LP runtimes. Clairvoyant's problems lie in production. Some songs have a really poor sound quality and hence sap away loads of emotional power that these songs could've brought to the table, because the songwriting was clearly on point as heard in the album's other tracks.
TL;DR: Album's pretty good, but its rocky production sets it back from being outstanding.

Anyone notice this is the exact same name as The Contortionists latest album? Haha. HOW ORIGINAL. Jk.
