mmm this might be growing off me a bit. I think it's a pleasant little 3.5 and it's good to pop on once in a while (and I really like Waiting for the Snow a lot), but the relative lack of dynamic range makes this wear off pretty quick

actually tend to agree, might have oversold this by a few decimals. still solid but maybe more along the lines of a 3.7-3.9. the songs I like, I LOVE. but some of the others aren't holding their own over time.

Hopefully this holds up to repeated listens, and breaks above a 3.5 rating, but this sounds like accomplished pop / 'dance rock' music. Róróró, Wild Roses, Ahay, and Sleepwalker particularly stand out as tracks to revisit.
In my opinion, this makes three fun, solid 7/10 albums for the band. I hope they get a bit more exposure in the UK, where they are still widely seen as that 'indie folk' band that released Little Talks. Their sound has become more evolved and diverse than that now.

Yeah I actually agree. It's really basic. I just used the lyrical excerpt from the song because it's a perfect summary for their stylistic change.

bit disappointed that they didnt really evolve their sound from beneath the skin... i respect them focusing on slow-burning tracks and ballads that grow on you, but would like to see the return of some of the big hooks and melodies from their debut

I think the vocals are improved here but the song writing is a tad weaker. Still love it.
