"(...) we need more fanatics (...)"

Wrong in every possible context.

Album is his most inconsistent yet imo. Wasn't really paying attention during the last third though (for conceivable reasons), so I'll have to listen one more time, but I feel this is average at best, some very enjoyable songs in the middle notwithstanding.

What we need is elasticity.

I like the first half. Second half sounds like he decided to slap some production on stuff he recorded on his phone under the folder "Ideas". 22 grew on me though, so maybe this will too.

My least favorite thing about this record is how status quo it feels...very much a slightly more lighthearted/warm take on 22, A Million / Big Red Machine - and it's not as good as at least the former. With that said it's hard not to let bias in the door when something is so directly comparable to a former work but doesn't quite measure up; this is still a very strong record on its own though. Had he released this as his 3rd LP and kept 22 on the backburner, would I have been hailing this as his greatest achievement? It's quite possible.

A few more tracks are better than I initially thought, but I think this is not going any further in my estimation. Pretty good but I hope he does something else next time around.

He does like stuff too - almost as much as he hates stuff. Still can't believe he dissed Exile on Main St though.

this is so boring. Like, really really boring.

It's like Bonerbear struggles to find something to say about anything at all. It leaves no lasting impression whatsoever.

An incredibly soulless album that has very brief hints of the magic still left in this project.

this is better than 22 a million, by a good margin imo

nah 22, A Million has tighter songwriting, better production, and more memorable melodies. this is a watered down version of that album which is essentially perfect.

It does? 33 God is better than anything here, but I can't think of any other songs that really stand out as well as iMi, U, Naeem or Sh'Diah. I just played it again recently and I certainly enjoy it more now than I did when it came out but a handful of the tracks are kind of boring to me

U is terrible. I think just about every song on 22 is more memorable than any song here, although this retains the gorgeously cryptic aesthetic. Over Soon, Deathbreast, Creeks, 33 God, Strafford APTS, and 8 (circle) are all at the very least more memorable than iMi/Faith/Holyfields, which I feel are the big 3 from this record. I don't think the tracklist does this album any favors either, so I'm working on re-imagining that portion via a playlist to boost my appreciation of this record. I realize all of this sounds ridiculous coming from that 4.3 rating, but it's BI, and usually his work is an auto-5. Maybe in due time. But this definitely is his least immediate album, for me.

My biggest gripe is that this feels like a direct sequel to 22, A Million. Just more of the same.

U is better than every song on 22 barring 33 God lol. Also Holyfields is like the most whatever song here, maybe the most w.e song in his entire discography Sowing you whack son geez damn

Whoa yeah U is probably my favorite on here. And Holyfields probably leaves the least impression (still great in context though)

Yea I've always liked the piano/choir vibes on U man - I do think this album was a bit of a let down but still has great moments for sure

If Vernon doesn't start writing real songs again and not this bee blop computer sounding shit I'm going to drive to Eau Claire and fight him in the street. Not really because he's my daughter's favorite artist, but you get the point.
