I'm listening to it now. I love that song, not sure why it's so divisive. The part in the middle totally works for me. I'm pretty sure it recalls some melody/chords from the album or BtToS, and the solo is a killer, also containing themes from elsewhere. Anyway, I thought they said "our rivers run in vertical," not sure what "in vertigo" would mean exactly, some poetic license thing.

Strong album with a little "which song am I listening to" feeling sometime. "Wintertide" is a must listen track.

I was randomly reminded of how bad this review was while discussing the new single earlier today as well as the previous full length

Observer, can you give the new one a quick 1 star review so we have somewhere to talk about it?

nah, dont care. Apparently, neither do the fans to write a counter review for my garbage here on this one, 3 years later, but here we are.

Eh the new one is def worth a listen. One spin in, it's probably better than this one.

It has some of the best heavy moments they've done, imo. I usually zone out when they go full death metal, but some of the soundscapes here are pretty great with the horns and stuff. There is a lot going on. If nothing else, it is a feast for the ears. It's not as charming or as catchy as BtToS. Some of the ebbing parts feel a bit unnecessary. I like the ones towards the end of the album more. I haven't even fully digested it but I'm pretty sure it's better than The Liberation. I kinda wished they had just released this first because a lot of it is a little too reminiscent of The Liberation.

Revisiting this bc I don't want to wear out Ayam but I want more Disillusion magic.
But I just have to wonder how there's such a difference in quality between these albums. For example, The Mountain is almost offensively uninteresting.

I'm baffled by why Ayam has been received sooo much more positively than this one. It is better, but it's not this massive leap in quality, and I think this one does some things better. The actual average ratings seem accurate though, so maybe it's just a vocal minority. I also don't understand why people don't like The Mountain. It is the high point of this album for me and every bit as good as anything off Ayam.
You don't even like the solo?

Yeah it's strange. Some reviews I read of Ayam also thought this was great. I wish I did too.
It's not like reading reviews of the new Katatonia where everyone agrees that City Burials sucked.
I like Wintertime and Time To Let Go. But I shall give The Mountain another try.

No. It's weird, but I just don't feel anything during that song.
Which sucks - but I can't seem to grow tired of Ayam, so I'll just make do with another listen of that.

Somebody threw Between at the end of the playlist for this album on youtube and it is such a beautiful song I wish it had made it on the official album
