"back when, back to the times, remember when?" ugh. they already covered all of that in much better ways."
idk, After the Party does it in a very different tone though. Songs like Tellin' Lies and Your Wild Years are super nostalgic but it feels wistful -- this feels desperate and bitter, like they missed out on something. There are some real good lyrics in here, even if the hooks aren't as strong as they were on ATP

"I'd say he is pretty explicitly referencing Fukuyama in the opener. He isn't exactly obscure."
exactly so i'm not going to pretend it's a super deep reference. Especially since the rest of the song's lyrics are incredibly cliche'd. I mean "Christians in power are hypocrites" has been covered a million times by Brand New, Green Day, etc, it's not exactly a stirring insight.
And "With all of my anger I scream and shout America, I love you but you’re freaking me out" sounds like a lame Frank Turner song tbh

the analogy still stands, because that's a pretty positive way of saying "fuck things in this country right now"
I love that song but was trying to figure out who it reminds me of, so thank you

Man, I love this review.
miss you
i actually agree that 'america i love you but you're freaking me out' is a little bit of a lame line, but i think the lyrics in the rest of the song make up for it.

It's a lame line, but works really well because of that. I like the bluntness of it. He goes from referencing Fukuyama to just the basic "Oh what the fuck". Shows the two sides we've all been at, of feeling like we're smart enough to maybe know what's going on, but still being freaked out by all of it

Are these guys worth checking out? The couple of Spotify songs I just checked out sound good. What other bands are these guys comparable to before I go buy some of their albums?

Uh oh. Early sput hype 3.7 equals an objective 2.6.

After the Party, On the Impossible Past, and Rented World are worth checking. I definitely wouldnt recommend this first to a newcomer.

The nostalgia is out in full force on this one for sure but it feels a lot more mournful here
bits like
"Drivin’ down 191
There's an old memory of someone
As a little white cross just popping out from the bend"
from High School Friend, and this
"The grief starts when bumping into friends turned acquaintances
We stumble around the small talk
We break the silence with Jameson"
from Farewell Youth feel more specific than just pandering to me

Greg has to have some serious TMJ.

Strangers Forever is one of their best singles yet.

Its the worst because it sounds even more like a deliberate single than Anna did.
