for me, Mathieu Romarin could sign the yellow pages and it would be a worth listen regardless. . . also god tier live and fantastic cleans and a growl that breaks. . . no idea how you can shit on the guy

It's not the voice, it's the use. From what I remember, this and their previous records didn't really have melodies, just weird ass droney singing that didn't make sense at all. He does have a nice voice and great screams though, but the usage of the clean vox is just very strange...

I don't know, I think their songwriting is too spazzy for the way he wants to sing. for sure. But no melodies? I mean the last 2-3 songs here on have plenty of really airy melodies (e.g. Everyman is bonkers). Just listened it to again, confirming the 3.5 at this stage I just think they should just become way more straightforward and cut the prog. and instead all these bands just amp up the prog and lose themselves.

over-usage of cleans, not enough growls, his growl is GREAT, criminally under used

yeah man. e.g. Buds on Februus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZx1jKUDfJo

Like they really wanted to overcomplicate their writing and as it happens in prog, you also lose consistency, overall quality and public.

that's my two cents on this decade prog

These guys would sound amazing just doing ambient rock with clean goodness and some low guitars for the climaxes. Just be like a post-rock meshuggah or something

I really like the drums on this album. Some of his drum playthroughs really make me appreciate this album a lot more.
