Sort of reminds me of a passage from Funeral's review that I really agreed with and wish I could have stolen for my own piece:
M3LL155X saw her take this narrative to ambitious new territory featuring an artistic short-film to accompany the album filled with both seductive, gruesome and otherworldly imagery. She is a holistic artist in the truest of sense.
She's not just a musician, she's an artist. I know that sounds cliche and gets overused a lot, but it's definitely true of FKA Twigs.

my ranking is
cellophane > mary magdalene = fallen alien = mirrored heart = sad day > daybed = home with you > thousand eyes > holy terrain
even holy terrain is extremely strong tho

Good review and really good album! This is her first album I've listened to so I don't know where it falls in her canon, but it seems like a pretty great starting point.

Proscett with the correct ranking
Edit: Nvm I take it back, put Home With You with the Sad Day equals
Edit Edit: Nice review Sowing!

I'd be tempted to 5 this if not for that damn Futures cameo... :/

I actually quite like that song, but feels out of place here
|

Yeah really really out of place. And it also makes the song feel generic to me, which is particularly jarring when the rest of the album is anything but.

Thanks AFA, Sitar!
Agreed about holy terrain sounding out of place, but not for the reasons that everyone else seems to be giving. I'm not a huge fan of the Future cameo either, but I don't think anyone else would have been better. The song is just too basic/bland to begin with and doesn't measure up against all the other awesome stuff occurring on this record.

"WRONG"
that's vague

holy terrain isn’t bad (and i’m not a future fan at all) but it would have been better suited as a standalone or on an ep... or a future album even. definitely just feels out of place here. not skippable in its own right but in the context of the album I might take it out

^ i actually like holy terrain so much better within the context of this album. as a single, i was quite underwhelmed. but on the album it brings a nice trap variation while (imo) not compromising on the overall sound and theme of the record.

Can anyone else literally feel themselves flying at the end of 'home with you'?

I can’t get that song out of my head. The disparity between the chilly verses and the sky-parting chorus is so compelling. Not a song you can comprehend on first listen.
"I wonder if you think that I could never help you fly" Don't doubt her Sowing!

This is terrible.

Who's this Futures fella and how do we surgically remove him, (or at least his ill-fitting contribution) from this album?

I don't know, but god do I hope we get a version of the song without him at some point... Also just stumbled upon the 'full' album art, and oh my... This fallen alien has quite the booty and is mega jacked.

I like some of this, just a bit confused right now. Fallen Alien, Mary Magdalene and Cellophane are all good, in fact the ranking by proscett on this page looks very similar to how I feel so far... at least in terms of ranking the individual cuts.

For me it's: fallen alien > home with you > cellophane = sad day = mirrored heart > thousand eyes > mary magdalene = daybed > holy terrain
