This must be the first band in the history of Sput to be cursed with 3.8 LP ratings only

You evil man !
While you're at it, could you lift THE to a 3.9 and maybe drop AND to a 3.7 for the sake of relativity? Then I can die content

Why would you wish to upset the perfect balance like that?

Decent record. Still think their third record is their best. The band's inclination towards accessible sounds has always sort of held them back in my idea. Still, they're undoubtedly talented.

Their third wore the accessible vibes the best imo. You ever hear the Repeat EP? I largely agree with your take and found it v satisfying on that basis

gotta keep the 3.8 alive

@Johnny Usually I go through the albums and leave the EP's for what they are. Maybe I'll check it out sometime.

Finally getting around to listening to this album and i do appreciate your take in this review and see a little where your coming from but I think this album's greatest strengths lay in nuance. Theres small things and flourishes in the vocals and vibes in these songs that I think sound really special and hit a personal somber(ish) note admist the mainstream polish. Tracks like Himitsu in particular Fill a role that previous styles and albums never quite captured. Feels like they dont feel pressure to always be doing some driving rhythm or mathy part either. It feels good to listen to some of these tracks that are perfectly okay with just taking their time.

Album Rating: 4.0 | Sound Off
Its hard to say how I really feel about this album. Its a competently made tricot album, but it almost feels *too* competent. Its a better album when compared to AND (because AND feels more like a collection of songs than an album), but it doesn't give us anywhere near the heights of AND or any other tricot album for that matter. Makkuro gives us a condensed, purified summary of tricot sound to this point, with the emo-edge filed down, and whilst I appreciate that, I do hope subsequent tricot releases try to give us something more, whether that is by returning to some of the ideas off 3, or by going more pop like repeat - although maybe that sound is better saved for what seems like an inevitable solo project by Ikkyu.

So as of right now, Tricot's LPs finally have the perfect avg ratings
"competently made tricot album, but it almost feels *too* competent" this x100
"It feels good to listen to some of these tracks that are perfectly okay with just taking their time." I kinda feel this; the band do sound v comfortable and confident here, and it feels like they've conserved much of their older sound - I guess my issue is more that they haven't developed it much further

Interesting album, I might raise my rating later.
Some of it reminds me of anime ops though, and that's not cool.
