Excited to spin this later, hopefully it turns out better than the last two records.

It is still too early to have a more rational thought about it ;) I have been listening while I am working which prevents me from fully digesting it. But I've been enjoying it. I would say it kinda summarizes their career, being more comprehensive than Medusa. I just need to focus more to see to what extent they jumped over their Depeche Mode era.

I liked Medusa but it did feel a bit of step down after the excellence of The Plauge Within. But THIS, this is a major homerun for PL. Again. Just a beautiful, well crafted monolith of goth metal where they blend 30 years of musical experience and influence. I also love the production on this and the guitar solos are chilling.

Great review and fantastic album. Nick Holmes delivering the goods for these pandemic times. Looking forward to hearing the first 3 tunes on this live...

The harsh vocals sound better than they have in a long time

I don't like this as much as plague yet but its really good

some gorgeous liquid sounding guitar tones on this one

I've just started listening to their discography and I'm only on Host but I want to listen to this so bad. Think I'm gonna make an exception for this one and get to it tonight

I wanted to initially, but only if no one was interested in particular. Simon decided to do it, so all good for me. Also, I wasn't sure if I listened to Paradise Lost enough to review an album of theirs.

Better than Medusa, probably just as good as TPW, except ravenghast is just a way worse closer than return to the sun. and basically just sounds like a poor man's beneath broken earth. also feels like they've already made fall from grace a thousand times haha even tho its pretty good. Serenity bangs tho.

Guitar work is always sensational. Issue I have with this band is the vocalist. He's got something going for him that works half the time. But the other time I think about how much better the band might be if they had a guy whose cleans didn't feel so buried beneath ten feet of water. Like he can't go hard is the reality, with cleans at least. Definitely hinders the melodic riffage at times and kinda ruins a bunch of the quieter verses.
