My theory is that the frontman tasted some success with Greatest Hits, got high on his own farts, wanted to be seen as a ~serious mature artist~, and started taking the music too seriously. When that whole shitstorm happened where he argued with the fans, he said something about how the lyrics are actually meaningful instead of the stupid amateur ones he wrote for Greatest Hits. As i said somewhere on sput (maybe this thread), some bands are better off not taking it seriously and just having fun with it. The more "mature" direction doesnt work for them.

After they booted the original drummer, this just makes me sad. They have so much potential. Their first album is ironic at this point, and honestly makes it better for whatever reason. Still, I hope these guys get it together.

I wouldn't mind them distancing from that sound and maturing (whatever that means for them) if they only did it right, last one was forgettable with some sparce good moments, but this one has some downright atrocious cuts

Right, but they didnt do it right. Some bands are better when they give less of a fuck and this is one of em. Shoulda stuck with the humorous lyrics and fun instrumentation.

Totally agree with that. The playfulness and Weezer like sounds really made "Greatest Hits" for me.

this is both kinda overhated and also pretty uninteresting

eh this is kind of cool. dead man is a good song

could definitely see how fans of their older stuff could be put off by the really dry and lethargic sound

Deathconscious's theory might be onto something... add in the drama of kicking out the OG drummer (on GH) to tie in with the "serious" thing and idk sounds plausible

man that's not even a theory he's just speaking the truth, they just need to stop acting like they’re high-art people, when they came up off of art for high people instead. i don't like throwing the word pretentious around too much but.....

they were super nice in person yeah, like i’ve seen them live twice but that doesn’t mean they don't have an ego or at least Erik

tbh, they should have retired the remo drive name when they kicked sam out and started making their "mature" rock under a new name. might have helped things go down easier with the fan base idk. probably couldn't do that though because epitaph signed them.
