Adz is very overrated. Its bookends and Vesuvius some of the only worthwhile songs

I'm not huge in Adz either. Some of his very best songs are on it but it's not a great front to end listen like most of his other works.

Adz for me is the easiest, most rewarding front to back listen of all his discog. It’s too quickly admonished as being shit-thrown-at-wall but as Row correctly asserted, all of those morsels justify being there. Here the electronics do much less to bolster the songs and aren’t as harmonious with the vocal melodies or lack thereof. Adz feels like an apocalypse of one’s mental state and this feels like a wet weekend

Considering where some of the inspiration of Adz comes from, that makes sense. Considering where this record is coming from, the sound of it makes lots of sense too. Perhaps I just identify with how he's processing the zeitgeist.

See that's where I disagree. The electronics on Adz absolutely are thrown against the wall. Sometimes it works better than others but here the electronics simmer beneath the surface and erupt at the right times and are much more complementary to the melodies. Basically I agree with the opposite of what anatelier said lol.

I should clarify that I’m not saying it -isn’t- thrown against the wall, just that the approach works because of how chaotic it’s meant to be. I haven’t had any emotional rises from this one yet so I’m struggling to see what the style accomplishes. And that’s aside from the fact that this is too damn long and the vocals too airy. I don’t want to be a 45 minutes or bust kinda person but so much here is unnecessary imo

45 minutes is actually quite awhile before you bust.

I was all set to agree with people on the length before I heard this but honestly it sort of breezed by for me and didn't feel cumbersome. So much of this brought the feels for me (esp. the t/t) whereas Adz felt cold and robotic. I dunno, different strokes I guess.

Adz is awesome, but this is awesome too. And I'm glad sowing also said it, this doesn't feel like 80 minutes at all. Perhaps America drags a bit.

Tell Me You Love Me, Die Happy, Ursa Major and Death Star at the very least should all be chucked off a cliff and the whole thing would be way more palatable

Yea I guess that could be it.

I maybe agree with Death Star, all the others are essential. Esp Tell me you love me and Die happy. I hate disagreeing with the only person who has a chart that looks vaguely like mine lol.
