damn the ending of Pagans music video has me thinking the talk about a Plastic Beach 2 might actually be legit

i have mixed feelings about that because on one hand Plastic Beach is my fav but on the other hand I don't think anyone is in disagreement about the fact that Damon has really been dropping the ball on the conceptual / narrative component to Gorillaz that peaked on PB
It will undoubtedly have some bops but I just don't think there is any chance he can recapture the magic of that album as a whole.

i'll just be very surprised if after 4 albums that failed to meet those conceptual expectations - the last of which pretty much just abandons that narrative element entirely - he suddenly reconciles that loss.

Idk I can count on one hand the number of "sequel albums" that haven't been complete shitshows

i think he kinda gave up on that whole concept-oriented project after humanz. Hence why Song Machine is, well, a glorified singles compilation. Maybe if he gives it time, like he gave PB time after DD, they'll make something cool.
I think i'd rather they go in a completely new direction, tho.

I agree sequel albums are always diminishing returns. but seeing as he never properly finished the Plastic Beach era and there are hundreds of great outtakes we still haven't heard, there's a basis for a second album. he wouldn't have to create it wholecloth in 2020
also this slaps hard enough I'm on board for anything lol

I think I did this already but since my ratings have changed the more I listen to it
Strange Timez - 5/5, prob my favourite rillaz opener since Last Living Souls
Valley of the Pagans - 3.5/5
The Lost Chord - 4/5, this one sneaks up on you tho I wish the feature did more
Pac-Man - 4/5
Chalk Tablet Towers - 2.5/5, sometimes I kinda like this, other times it's garbage
The Pink Phantom - 5/5, the coda when all three of them are singing in tandem is somehow my favourite thing Damon's done in a long-ass time
Aries - 5/5
Friday 13th - 2/5, to its credit I really like the beat of this song and the outro when 2D comes in, still don't fw the rest
Dead Butterflies - 5/5, straight up emo boy shit I love it
Desole - 3.5/5
Momentary Bliss - 5/5
~
Opium - 4.5/5, should've been the standard closer but slaps either way
Simplicity - 3.5/5, I actually like this one a fair bit. the jazzy kinda groove it has is cool even if it doesn't really go anywhere
Severed Head - 2.5/5, feels like a demo for a better song, still alright but Goldlink's bit is straight ass
With Love to an Ex - 2/5
MLS - 3.5/5, shit's catchy as all fuck don't even lie
How Far - 4/5
