All apologies, my heteronormative response was in reply to user LordePot's comment about the eagerly anticipated Live From The Treefort (No Girls Allowed) version of this album on the previous page.

Steven Wilson going pop is an idea that on paper sounds pretty cool for me, I don't mind at all the change of styles per se
But what I get from the review is that even as a pop album it fails to deliver. Big dissapointment right here

dude hasn't made a decent pop song since The Rest Will Flow but he keeps doubling down on this style for some reason. probably won't listen to this

Good review, Talons. I like how I see many thoughts from threads included here. It's true that this album is odd and awkward. His pop sensibilities shine best when they're not in the center (H.C.E. t/t and Perfect Life for example), and even TTB had some great pop tunes, that worked better under the thin layer of art rock and A.O.R.
But this is shallow. Maybe SW pulls an ''I'm Still Here'' to us, and all this is just a mocking critique targeting mainstream pop culture. I mean, it's not like this album could not be a diss for SW latest output. Self-burn... Those are rare.
In all seriousness, quitting a faithful company and moving to a music corporation? Rejecting the affinity towards the album medium , that you were so passionate about? It sounds like the wild stuff someone who's been in a coma would hear to gimmickly find out how much the world has changed while they were asleep.

Idk, maybe Steven needs to spread his wings a little. He's probably burned out on his art rock/prog stuff he did. For so long. I could see him come back to it after a couple of albums. Maybe he should produce another contemporary artist like he did with Opeth back then

I feel like it's a turning point for him. Change is good. Unlike this album, but I must be glad it exists.

Well, change is good, but maybe transitioning periods are weird.
