Yea clout chasy may not have been the best choice of words, I'm just kind of spit balling here. Prob on high emotions after revisiting Sophie's album this morning. I do think it looks weird though from my perspective and can see why others are critical

Yeah I mean I didn't know her personally either, but when the news broke I cried and the way she died made it even harder

Same here, SOPHIE, MF DOOM and Trevor from Black Dahlia were the worst musician deaths I've personally experienced

So am I not allowed to write poetry referencing her death? Or any of their deaths?
I do think the verse could have been better, but jfc twitter is pissing me off

You can always count on Twitter.

You can write whatever you want but you can't control how people interpret it

I just think people are too damn sensitive, not like she was shitting on her
The Mountain Goat's Love Love Love references Kurt Cobain's death, is that wrong too?

Cobain's death was way higher profile and had immediate wider symbolism for the whole ironic narrative of forcing someone into the shoes of a tortured idol and watching them get eaten alive by the exposure. His death belonged to practically everyone with a foothold in 90s pop culture
Sophie wasn't a 'symbol', she was an icon. Absolutely an entity unto herself, and the way she died reflected that. Can absolutely understand why people would feel sensitive about anyone who tries to turn the isolated tragedy of her fall into a contrived Cultural/Poetic Moment or lay ownership to her legacy (especially considering how poignant the tributes from folks in her circle like Charli were vs. the absolute cornball Annie spat out as a stranger to her)
Bottom line is that St Vincent should have written a better verse, but the Cobain comparison tramples on all the nuances of what was so individual and precious about Sophie that inspires fan protectivism

Fair enough, I get what you’re saying, but I think people are overreacting imo, I do think the verse could have been better
Anyway, I’m really enjoying the album a lot, Broken Man through Violent Times is fire

“ i've been missing out on some discourse with that line lol”
I got on Twitter and immediately saw a tweet that was like “bitch you never met her and you write a verse about her death, shame on you”
That person most likely didn’t even listen

the one thing you can always count on when she drops an album is the absolute dogshit discourse lol. as certain as death and taxes
at least music critics aren't still writing about her "doe-like saucer eyes" like in the Strange Mercy days jfc that shit was embarrassing

It is odd how she seemingly somehow gets the shit end of discourse for both "mainstream" acts and more hipster stuff. I really don't wanna reduce the backlash down to simple misogyny because I know she's a fairly bold character but I also just don't understand how anyone could dislike her that much lol

well minus the discourse...good album. this feels closer to a definitive sound for her. Probably won't revisit the whole album, but there's some fun industrial adjacent stuff here. love the last two tracks in particular

It's funny reading my soundoff for daddy's home because she did exactly what I wanted to. Daddy's Home was a nice little breather before rolling up sleeves and getting back to being weird
