I saw him live. It was bad.

Meh, I can see the Alt Rock in JEW but Pop-Punk is really a more suitable sub genre than Pop-Rock.

I love JEW, and Clarity is one of my top 3 favourite albums, but this didn't work for me. Some of the songwriting is uninspired and stilted by the rhyming, and "Night Drive" reminded me of "My Sundown." Ah well. It has "23" and is pretty solid, but it's not their best. The title track is also too heavy into "Rock the Vote" territory. Furthermore, "Kill" is such a blatant homage/thievery of Heatmiser that it's endearingly annoying. Still, it's pretty, and I wish that "Shame" had been polished a little more and put on the domestic release instead of serving as a bonus track for the imports.
Finally, the new album will be called Rick's Big-Ass Dance Party II and will feature the hot joints "Digits (Girl, Can I Get Those)" and "A Sunday (Phat Booty Bass Version)."This Message Edited On 07.27.06

^Haha, the site blog is hilarious. Anyway, I've never heard Heatmiser so I can't say that it is a theft or anything.

This isn't pop-punk, but whatever, good review.
I like this album a lot, particularly the title track, 'Kill' and 'Drugs or Me'.

Finally, someone likes the title track.

Well, it is a ripoff of Heatmiser. He even says, "Like your favourite Heatmiser song goes, it's just like being alone." JEW even covers the song, "Half Right," on the Stay on My Side Tonight EP. "Easy kill" is also a term from the same Heatmiser album.
Good times!

Never heard of Heatmiser, but I do enjoy the title track quite a bit.

Heatmiser's the band that of which Elliott Smith used to be part. If you don't know who he is, check out X/O or the song "Say Yes." He was also featured and got a lot of his fame from the soundtrack to the movie Good Will Hunting. I think this album came out on the same date that Elliott Smith's first posthumous album did, about a year after he died.
Enough Elliott Smith talk.

Great album, the title track is pretty under-rated.

I can't decide between a 3 or a 3.5 for this album. It's pretty solid though, so I'm leaning towards 3.5.

Think this grew on me. After my first listen i thought it was pretty bland, but there are some great tracks on here. Really like 23.

Title track is the best on the album, in my opinion.
Bass is pretty simple, I'll agree, but it get's the job done. This is just one of those albums where the bassline is the last thing I'm thinking about.

I heard Work a long time ago. I don't remember my impression (indifference?) but I feel I really should check this out.
