I’ll be honest I always kind of wrote her off as “mainstream” since she never seemed to have a particular critical or online music audience (at least in the areas I follow) and I never particularly liked any of her popular songs so never even considered listening to her.

Listen to the songs The End of Love or June

Edit: Well those are beautiful, but theatrical, I think you'd like this album best

Those two songs were decent Ash, I could see myself getting into something like that. Why might this one appeal to me?

It's just less over the top, buuuuut more rhythmic

Sowing didn't like this one as much because it is missing a lot of her older elements

Normally I’m loath to jump into a discog late like this but I might just try it.

I definitely recommend it, Boney. I do think Welch has a tendency to veer too far into theatricality and excess at times, but the music is still really well-composed and you can tell she's putting her all into her craft

If you didn't feel Florence before but you're curious, then this is the one to try, still the odd overdone vocal or lyrical idea but miles better than anything else they've done, lots of the worst impulses have been tamed.

Does anyone else feel though that is album isn't entirely the most feverishly dancey album they've heard

Yeah, there's a lot of self-reflection in the lyrics despite the album title. Some somber moments as well, though I would definitely say the record isn't quite as dark or brooding as High as Hope

it's a very good album, i'm probably also biased in that someone i care about is finding it very inspiring and relatable and i think i love it even more for that reason
