is it really a lana album these days without some bad stuff shoehorned in for no apparent reason? that's what i'm getting tired with, and i love a number of these tracks

Ya I have the same complaints with this album as I did with the Ethel album, tho I do enjoy Ethel's lyrics more usually

“ Punctuation would’ve hurt”
I mean I literally thought the review was just cut off and missing the rest of a paragraph but literally a question mark would have made it clear that it was meant to end like that
If the absence is meant to signify something, it was lost on me.
Review is good tho pretty much how I felt.

cheers pal + fixed re. the ending/opening - needed an edgier foregrounding I think, though I didn't wanna overdo it

I didn’t know if I was missing an in reference or what the first time around but maybe I just wasn’t paying close enough attention, not sure if that made it more obvious or not since you pointed me in the right direction

Kinda a baffling album, WAY too long (even the terrible interludes are way too long on their own), but moments of excellence too. My 3.0 score is probably a bit generous, but hard to rate given the variance.

I actually low key liked the Judah smith and Jon batiste interludes, there is such a ghostly atmospheric quality to them that sits nicely and kind of recontextualizes what I would normally consider to be by-the-numbers tracks by Lana. Said tracks still aren’t really for me but with this album I can kind of see the appeal and appreciate the art of it despite my preferences. Like it’s probably a 2.5 for me but it’s also the first time I haven’t vehemently hated a Lana album.

The two songs I heard on this are great.

The worst thing about a&w is it gaslit me into thinking the rest of the album could have benefited from a more diverse stylistic palette but then when you finally get that with Peppers it’s a fucking disaster and suddenly the Father John Misty song is a highlight

there is no practical reason for me to listen to this is there
