It's the middle of winter of Australia and really cold in Melbourne (already anticipating the laughter of those in northern Europe and America at my description of 12 degrees Celsius as "really cold").
This is the perfect music for appreciating the beauty in cold wet, miserable weather - don't feel like listening to anything else at the moment.

This thread represents both how I feel about the album and how I wish I felt. I think it's horrendously samey, but that sound that it fails to diversify is also extremely beautiful. I only need like 2-3 songs off here, beyond that it just feels like repetition. However, the way some of you (like markjamie, above) describe the full album is absolutely how I feel about certain specific songs (Bloöberg, Skel, Klettur in particular) so it gives me this shred of hope that I might eventually feel the same way about the whole release.

I just feel like Skel is my highlight by a big margin. Album is not bad, it is just extremely safe and a little bit repetitive. Probably around 3.5 for me as well, but it is just because im biased toward them
Also probably their weakest behind Valtari

I might end up liking this more than Med Sud and it's already way clear of Von. It does lack variety somewhat, but I enjoy what's here for the most part. Running off vibes.

I never consider Von in my ranking weirdly enough. it is like an anomaly for me, but I guess it is over Von for sure
I need to listen to med sud again

I’m a huge Sigur Ros fan and this is pretty average IMO. I’ve given it multiple listens at this point and I’d rate it around a 3/5. All of their other releases are easily 4.5-5/5’s for me. The lack of any percussion or bass in majority of tracks is a big miss. The songs sound unfinished to me because of it and lack dynamics. I hate to say it, but it comes off as a bit lazy. It almost sounds like a Jonsi solo record with a backing orchestra. This is the best he has ever sounded though, so that’s a plus. It’s difficult to criticize music like this because it’s all so beautiful and otherworldly, but this is at the bottom tier of their albums for me. With that said, I still enjoyed it.. but it’s not at the same caliber as their other work. Maybe they should’ve trimmed it down and made it an EP, I don’t know.
