Reign in blood may have been faster, but this is my favorite slayer album, some of the songs on here are just fucked up. The whole atmosphere on this album just scares the shit out of me.

i am in fact digging this album right now, mostly because i am listening to kill again, praise of death and hell awaits like every 5 seconds, but this album has 3 major flaws, 1. drumming never changes. 2. vocals need improvement. 3. song length KILLS ME

The way the first and last song repeat the same theme was 80's influenced by AOR rock that made albums with a theme. I gave this a 4.0 because there are a lot of slow parts where Slayer seems to lose focus in the song. The first three songs are excellent from start to finish (don't like the long backwards intro to Hell Awaits though). The others you have to pick out the good parts. Seems like when a song loses focus, it immediately picks up with an excellent solo or bridge. Probably the weakest Slayer CD from the inspired era but still very good nonetheless and shouldn't be missed by Slayer fans!

I bumped this to 4.5 today because I listened again today and it is freaking good. As the others alluded to, if you can't tell I'm a Slayer fan looking at my profile, you need to have your vision checked. They beat your ass in every song and don't let up and it's a beating we all could use! (of course they sound like they are the ones taking the beating in their latest CD's) XD
