Ok, shall look out for these. The production sounds a little muddier on Leviathan, and is what kept me from getting it straight away in the first place. But the sample to Iron Tusk sounds killer.

You're all INSANE. This album is GREAT, the mixture of musical styles on the album is perfect. Brann Dailor is an excellent drummer, by the way.

Can't wait for the new album they're working on.

Thank God someone else has a negative opinion on Mastodon. I was beginning to feel like I was the only one.

i respect the opinions that think this isn't a good album. just for the fact that i used to dislike this too, but it REALLY grew on me. it took about 5 listens to really click, but it eventually did.

Mastodon has been over-hyped and thus there is a natural backlash against them. But lets face it - Pitchfork doesn't know jack about metal. This is good stuff, but there is better out there.

I love this album to pieces, but it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. I like your review.

Same here forever, when I got this, I could not see how it had been praised so much.

Now, I cannot believe I did not like it immediately. I hope their album this year, which I have confidence will slay, builds on their sound.

Good review, well stated and thought out, I disagree with it however, Being a fan of between the buried and me any band that can create a sense of meaning in there lyrics or a story behind it is doing better than anyone else who just rambles on about nothing, and as for the drums one of the things that made me love this band was the fact that he goes and does what he wants it makes it interesting, I get sick of bands where all their albums sound the same and there songs take no more time to write than switching some riffs around in an older song, but I value your opinion and dissection of this album

Good to have a varying opinion on this one, despite disagreeing with virtually everything you've said.

Something tells me your sound-off of Crack the Skye isn't entirely serious. Just a guess.

How did people rank the new album? Isn't the leak missing the last track?

I just got Crack The Skye from a blog and it, like on all of the blogs, is missing The Last Baron. Oh well, not gonna complain, still 90% of the album.
