Nah, rather meh. But they were always pretty average or worse on album length, only with a few really worthwhile tracks here and there.

"When You Were Young" is not only far and away the best song on this album, but the best of their career. It transcends to a whole other level they've never even come particularly close to. That song meant more to me when it came out than 99% of music I've heard since. It was like the Boss and Petty teamed up and hired some new wave band to back them. Beautiful.

Hear a cover of When You Were Young at a local concert at my university and it reminded me how much I love that song. And then I got to thinking what it was about:

"He doesn't look a thing like Jesus/ But he talks like a gentleman/ Like you'd imagined when you were young."

I always thought him not looking like Jesus was "Well superficially he isn't what you expected" but him talking like a gentleman meant he still was a good guy. So it was like a, "Well you met the right person even if he isn't what you expected."

But I've flipped now... I'm thinking "He doesn't look a thing like Jesus" means he doesn't act like Jesus, but he's a smooth talker ("But he talks like a gentleman") so she superficially falls for that. So the guy is actually a sleaze.

I think I like this interpretation better.

Also, obligatory best Killers song.

This one is far more consistent than Hot Fuss, but lacks the obvious highs of that one too.
