I don't get the hate for the drum tones. The Rev's snare in City Of Evil sounds far worse than this one.
That said I have more of a problem with the drumming itself. Way too simplistic for a band of Metallica's stature. They could replace Lars with Meg White and nobody would notice. and track one, two and ten I think are brilliant. Shame about the rest.....

There's nothing wrong with the drum sound in CoE.
In this album however, like many have said, it sounds like he's hitting a trash can. Personally i think that actually sounds good in some parts of songs, but it does get annoying in the long run.
