Review Summary: Raw, melodic skatepunk. Grab your board!
To me Gnarwolves really are a band which stands out in their genre, which is a mixture between pop punk and hardcore. You really can't compare their sound to like The Story So Far or The Wonder Years, the bands that have the same tags as the three piece band hailing from Brighton. But this is really what makes them special: You just hear pure DIY-skatepunk, and they have their very own trademarks: a lo-fi production, two vocalists with the most fitting voices you can find out there, the supershort songs and melodies that aren't just the party bangers they are often called, but instead really bring the emotion needed to become one of my favourite bands.
In their discography their two first EP's CRU and Fun Club stand out in my opinion, because here the guitar and singing is extreme catchy, but raw and energetic at the same time.
To me every song is special, and it can be sung riding a bike to the city to a party or a concert or a whatever, just ask my neighbours, they have to know these records exaxtly. Also I really like the shortness of the songs, to me this is a big *** YOU! to the commercial music were repeating a chorus till you just want to leave your vormit all over in the room is the standard to poison everyone around.
Personally my favourite track is the wonderful opener ''Party Jams'', with its beautiful guitar part and the singing changing from enthusiastic to melancholic. I also really like the climax in ''Reaper'', it just makes you want to grab your board and fall and stand up and fall and stand up again.
And this is what I like most about this band: It just gets you the energy to rise from every crisis and motivates you to give your best after standing up early in the morning and just feel ***ed up. ''Fun Club'' shows that there are hard times, but there will be times in your live that are just totally rad. And if they aren't there yet it inspirates to make something out of nothing.
