3.5 great | Erwann S. STAFF | May 9th 23 | As often with Coltrane, this recording gets his legendary stamp thanks to one major rcomposition. This time, it's "Chasin' the Trane", whose extreme intensity makes for one of the most memorable Trane tunes - seems like he's torturing his saxophone. Also as often with Coltrane, the rest of the tracks are more classical. Cool, but not too crazy stuff for Trane.

4.0 excellent | Bedex | September 24th 20 | This was super cool, but not as marking as I hoped it to be. Sure, I would have killed to see that live (to be fair I would have given a lot to get to see Coltrane live at any point really), but as a record to listen to I feel like there is better in the man's discog. This is a really sweet session, but that's kind of the issue - it feels like a session. I do love the energy, the prominent drums and the general vibe of the music, although the mixing sounds - forgivably since it's live- a bit off most of the time. The last third of 2 is the peak of the record imo, really darn solid, and 3 gets nicely spicier and adventurous, but sadly with the mix it gets a touch hard on the ear. Solid and good, but positively not my favourite Coltrane. 3.9
