Review Summary: Hearts of Black Science are a vastly unknown band. But with their talent, as heard on this EP, I think these guys are going to go very far.

Hearts Of Black Science.
Chances are you haven’t heard that name before. Hearts of Black Science are a vastly unknown band. But with their talent, as heard on this EP, I think these guys are going to go very far.

The EP Starts out with a calm keyboard line, marking the beginning of the fantastic Empty City Lights. The song’s mood is overall melancholy, and dark. The song is very enchanting and dark. The layers of instruments used really makes it complex and each time when you listen to it, you will discover something new. Very amazing song.

Next up is the haunting Revolvers. The song starts with mellow guitar and melodic singing, and build up to a drum machine with a quick snare roll. I cannot get enough of the drums on this song. They sound so crisp and clean. This is the song that introduced me to Hearts of Black Science, and is one of my favorites from the band. It has many layers just like Empty City Lights and every song by this band. Truly awesome song.

Then comes my favorite track on the album. Miles is more of an upbeat song, which at first kind of catches you off guard due to the fact that all the other songs are slower and more melancholy. In the chorus, the shaky keyboard lick is absolutely astonishing! Not that its very complex, but it is very fun to listen to. The singer Daniel really excels here too, with my favorite performance from him on the album. Best track on the EP.

The last song on the album is the slow and creepy Silver. This song is my least favorite on the EP, but is still great. The keyboard shines again here with a great little line going throughout the first half of the song. This song is the longest on the album, and being slower, does drag on during the first listens. It takes more getting used to than any other song on the album. Has an epic feel to it almost, very inspiring. Ends the EP on a sad note, but I wouldn’t have ended it any other way.

This EP had a limited run of 200 copies, but you can still purchase their newer EP which is great also.

Empty City Lights 4.5/5
Revolvers 5/5
Miles 5/5
Silver 4/5

Pros
-Great song writing abilities shown by the band
-The layers of sounds really make each listen better

Cons
-The vocals are distorted throughout almost the entire EP, which does give the album a certain feel, but does get rather old.
-Not long enough!!!!

Overall I think this is a great EP by a blossoming band, that is very worthwhile to have.

I give this a 4/5
