Review Summary: From just another emo-pop band to the new face of EDM.
I'm not sure what prompted the change in Cash Cash. I remember the days when they were a live band on tour with their one minor immature hit "Party In Your Bedroom". Now I listen to this new EP and go "What da fuh?" All I can say is, somewhere along the line, they did something right, because on the whole, this release is a major improvement on nearly everything on the charts.
That's not to say it's not without its flaws. "Take Me Home" could have used a MUCH better singer than Bebe Rexha, who I find extremely irritating. The drop is completely unimaginative - something even I could have done. And that's not saying much. "Here and Now", on the other hand, features a much better vocalist, but you've heard this brostep-ish drop before.
Aside from these? This EP, for an EDM release, rocks. "Overtime" is a massive yet extremely grin-worthy stomper of a song with both a children's choir and a sample from whatever song was sampled in Marky Mark's "Good Vibrations" as well as Dillon Francis's "Bootleg Fireworks" on vocals. "Hideaway" is straight dubstep, but with less wub and more hard-hitting chords. "Kiss the Sky" brings the kids and the stomping beat back for yet another crazy-happy song, and "Satellites" - my personal favorite - combines an extremely catchy hook with a drop made up of both synthesizers and what sounds like an Asian string instrument.
Overall, it's nice to see less wub and more chord in the EDM scene. Expect some massive things from Cash Cash in the near future.
