3.3 great | Voivod STAFF | December 30th 14 | Secular Noir is the Morpheus Tales' first full length effort in doing more than just a tribute to their influences with respect to the avant-garde/psychedelic end of black metal. Their ideas are all good and aplenty, the songs are fairly enjoyable, the flow of the album is far from optimal, the song writing is incomplete at places ("Event Horizon" ends long before it can be regarded as a proper song) and cohesion of the different - metal and non-metal - elements put together per song, tends to be lacking. The above said, Morpheus Tales remain a promising band and their next release is anticipated, as the Samples of Reality EP was quite great.
